Here at Geek Travel Guide, we identify with Simon Pegg’s definition of geek:
Being a geek is all about being honest about what you enjoy and not being afraid to demonstrate that affection. It means never having to play it cool about how much you like something. It’s basically a license to proudly emote on a somewhat childish level rather than behave like a supposed adult.

An Idea in Astoria
Geek Travel Guide Founder Dawn Allcot realized she needed a travel website while traipsing across Queens on assignment for a mainstream travel blog. As she entered the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens, she happened across displays showcasing Star Trek, The Dark Crystal, and ’80s coin-op video games.
She knew she could write pages on – and spend hours in – any one of these three areas of the museum – but her assignment was limited to a few hundred words on each museum. She realized she needed an outlet to cover the sights, attractions, and media she is passionate about, going into as much depth as needed to help others discover that same passion.
“Fall In Love”
A seasoned content writer and journalist, Dawn’s work has appeared on hundreds of websites and in national print publications. While paying the bills is nice, Dawn feels it’s an amazing luxury and privilege to be able to write about what she loves.
GTG combines Dawn’s passions for travel, Disney, food and drinks, and “geekier” topics like science fiction, fantasy, and technology, all in a fun and informative manner.
It also incorporates the passions of the rest of the team, including COO Rae Redford, Section Editors Sarah Wood and Chandi Gilbert, and Staff Writer T.J. Allcot.
Drawing on the diverse interests of this talented team, GTG brings something for virtually everyone: Gamers, Viewers, Readers, Makers, and Dreamers! And, of course, wayfaring folk and go-Gitters with a passion for travel and entertainment.
As Elon Musk said in a CNBC interview, “So when you work on something, if you fall in love with it, that’s a good sign – and then don’t worry about if others do. If you do, others will.”
Our goal here at GTG is to create content we love writing, expecting that other geeks will find it and love it, too.
